Botox® for Women and Men in Princeton, NJ

Many patients are conscious of having wrinkles, crow’s feet, deep forehead creases, and the “11’s” – the vertical lines frown lines that form between the eyebrows. While there are surgical procedures and lasers that can help improve such facial cosmetic concerns, non-surgical treatment using injectable neuromodulators (like Botox®, Dysport™, or Xeomin®) are an effective alternative for facial rejuvenation without the extensive downtime of surgery and some laser treatments.

Botox® is the first FDA-approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, forehead, and crow’s feet lines in adults. It is one of the most extensively studied medical cosmetic treatments and is approved for and being used in greater than 90 countries.

Derived from sources that exist in nature.

BOTOX® and other neuromodulators contain tiny amounts of a highly purified biological substance called botulinum toxin protein which is refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum.

There are nuanced differences between Botox and other neuromodulators as the formulations, potency, and approved doses vary among these products. The differences include the time of onset, duration, and diffusion around the injection sites. What this really means is that one product cannot take the place of another.

How long does Botox take to be injected? Does it hurt?

The entire injection process for each treatment usually lasts no longer than 5-15 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. We use the smallest, finest needle to help reduce discomfort and bruising and since Botox is what we do day-in and day-out, we have perfected our injection technique so that patients experience little to no pain. We offer topical anesthetics, cool compresses, and other techniques to minimize discomfort. However, most patients usually tell us they do not need anything because they “barely felt it”. The procedure is often so simple and quick, many patients choose to have their injectable treatments performed during their lunch hour.

When will I see results?

You may begin to notice results as early as 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with results intensifying in 5-14 days. Results obtained generally last for 3 to 4 months and can be easily maintained with follow-up treatments. Follow-up treatments range from 2 to 4 times per year.

BOTOX® is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show facial expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy, like the injectors at O Medical and Aesthetics.

Expect real, natural-looking, and noticeable results –Everyone will still know you are smiling when you are actually smiling.

What should I expect when I come to the office?

FAQ

How does Botox® work?

There is a combination of factors that are the underlying cause of wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’ feet including the repeated muscle contractions from facial animation and emotional expressions such as frowning and squinting over the years. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract, causing crow’s feet. This does not even include the cellular changes that can occur over time such as the reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment.

Dr. Onumah or our nurse injectors will inject these overused muscles with BOTOX ® to relax these muscles, temporarily reduce their activity and provide you a refreshed rested appearance which you will notice in a matter of days. The more consistent you are with your BOTOX® treatments, the smoother and more consistently radiant your skin looks over time!

What areas can be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® treatments can be performed in a number of locations, including:

  • Between your brows
  • Forehead
  • Eye area
  • Smile lines
  • Mouth
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Masseter (jaw) muscle to slim or narrow the lower part of a patient’s face.
  • Reduce gummy smiles (a smile that reveals too much gums)
  • Excessive Sweating - Underarm (axillary hyperhidrosis), hands (palmar hyperhidrosis) and feet (plantar hyperhidrosis).

When can I return to my daily routine?

After treatment, there is usually little to no downtime or recovery time. In some cases, patients may experience temporary redness or swelling shortly after treatment, although these symptoms should quickly dissipate. Most of our patients return to work or their normal daily activities immediately after treatment.

What are the side-effects of Botox?

Botox treatment is widely considered to be safe and effective with very low complication rates when administered by trained professionals. Dr. Onumah and our nurse injectors will assess your medical history and approach each injection with precise care to provide you with the safest treatment possible. Side effects are typically mild, including the possibility of discomfort or pain or irritation and bruising at the injection site, and dry mouth. In very rare cases, patients have reported eyelid drooping, brow drooping, or swelling.

As part of our treatment protocol, we offer pre and post-treatment instructions for bruising control to decrease the likelihood of complications.

How long does Botox last?

The longevity of the treatment varies from patient to patient, but most find that the effects last between 3 and 4 months.

Who is the ideal Botox patient?

Anyone that has visible signs of aging, even if they are mild, is a good candidate for Botox treatments. If you say “YES!” to any of the following questions, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be the perfect match for your skin rehab needs:

  • Do frown lines and wrinkles make you look tired and in need of a pick-me-up?
  • Do vertical frown lines between your eyebrows make you look much older than you are?
  • Do heavy brows make you appear angry?
  • Do you notice new lines developing or existing wrinkles deepening?
  • Would you prefer a noninvasive approach to anti-aging?
  • Do you want a treatment with no downtime?

What is a good age to get Botox?

There is no set age to start getting Botox treatments as it is not your age that determines when you should be treated, it is the severity of your facial lines that determines when Botox is right for you. Some patients in their mid-20s begin to see superficial lines around their eyes. Other patients start getting Botox treatments in their early 30’s after noticing lines. However, the truth is, everyone's facial lines form differently and whenever your lines begin to bother you, it is time to see a doctor to help you determine if treatment is right for you.

Can Botox be used to prevent wrinkles and lines?

BOTOX may be used in your 20’s to ward off the early stages of wrinkles and fine lines which will only deepen over time. Catching those crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, or fine lines early with BOTOX injections can help keep your face looking vibrant.

How expensive is Botox for the forehead?

The price of Botox treatments varies depending on your location, so consult with a local dermatologist to get an accurate estimate. At SKOAC Dermatology we have fixed many bad prior Botox jobs from inexperienced injectors and Groupon specials. It saddens us as these patients truly believed that they were getting a deal and unfortunately purchased a bad experience instead. As a patient, it is important to understand that Botox is a highly specialized prescriptive drug that should only be injected by trained, experienced, and skilled injectors. It is also important to be aware that there are a lot of fake black-market products imported from overseas and there is no such thing as generic Botox, so to ensure you are getting the real product, make sure that your injectors are certified and ranked with Allergan – the makers of Botox® cosmetic.

Can I get Botox treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is not recommended to receive any BOTOX treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding. The effects of the treatment are local but pregnant women must be more careful than others due to the growing baby. During this time alternative treatments such as mild facials or scrubs can keep your skin fresh and glowing.

Individual results may vary. Please visit the Botox® website for data sources.
